Inspiration Behind Our Mission

Our Story:

The spark for GearUp Sports ignited at a local volleyball tournament in their community, where founders Maana Parikh and Julia Pars, both ardent athletes with a deep love for volleyball, witnessed a scene that would pivot their lives in a new direction. They observed a team of girls playing with unmatched zeal but significantly handicapped by their lack of proper sports gear—many were without kneepads, and some wore shoes ill-suited for the volleyball court. The financial hurdles that kept these passionate athletes from being adequately equipped were starkly evident.

This encounter struck a chord with Maana and Julia. They reflected on their sporting journey, recognizing the undeniable role that the right gear played in their performance and safety. It was a moment of clarity: the field wasn’t level for everyone. Determined to make a difference, they founded GearUp Sports. Their goal was simple yet profound: to ensure that every young athlete, regardless of their economic background, had access to the necessary sports equipment to safely and effectively engage in sports. By collecting and redistributing sports gear, Maana and Julia embarked on a mission to break down barriers to participation and foster a future where every child could chase their sports dreams without limitations.

Continuing on their mission, Maana and Julia set up a governance structure where the allocation of donations could be managed with the greatest impact in mind. At GearUp Sports, every contribution is overseen by the founders and the board of trustees, ensuring that funds are directed to areas of most need. This structured approach allows the organization to effectively support various initiatives, from equipping young athletes with essential gear to expanding programs that reach more underprivileged youth.
